Have you tried the choux at POPELINI in Paris?

Imagine a lively street overflowing with Parisian temptations: chocolates, sausages, a variety of cheeses, freshly baked breads, and colorful fruit and vegetable stalls. This is rue des Martyrs in the 9th arrondissement, the neighborhood we call home.

If you walk from Notre-Dame de Lorette up the hill toward Sacré-Cœur, you’ll find a charming little door on the right side of the street. Step inside and you’ll discover delicate cream-filled pastries called choux. This is Popelini.

The pastry makers at Popelini create new and seasonal flavors regularly, keeping the selection fresh and exciting.
On a perfect Saturday outing, we strolled down rue des Martyrs with our pups, ready to sample any choux that caught our eye. That day we couldn’t resist the raspberry & rose and the apple tatin & tapioca.

We’ve also enjoyed classic flavors in the past—caramel, lemon and dark chocolate remain some of the best. Each bite balances a light choux shell with a rich, flavorful filling.

These pastries pair beautifully with tea or coffee, and our favorite pairing is champagne. Choux at Popelini make a lovely everyday indulgence or an elegant small dessert to bring to a friend when visiting.

Note those tiny tapioca pearls—when you bite into the choux they release a burst of texture and flavor that complements the creamy filling.

My favorite that day was the raspberry & rose. Rose can be tricky—if overused it tastes soapy—but when it’s balanced it becomes an exquisite, floral note that pairs perfectly with tart raspberry. The tiny rosebud garnish was a delightful finishing touch.

Another signature of these choux is the crisp, crackly top—such a satisfying contrast to the smooth filling. Words only go so far; you should taste these cream puffs yourself.
