Starbucks-Style Matcha Lemonade Recipe You Can Make at Home

This Matcha Lemonade recipe tastes just like the Starbucks version. It’s a bright, refreshing caffeinated drink — a perfect afternoon pick-me-up on warm days.

If you follow this site, you already know I love both matcha and Starbucks, and I often recreate their drinks at home. This is my copycat version of Starbucks Matcha Lemonade — bright, tart lemonade combined with smooth matcha for a lightly caffeinated treat.

I first tried matcha lemonade at a festival and was thrilled to discover that Starbucks carries it too. It’s convenient, but ordering it often can add up. Making it at home is simple, tastes great, and saves money.

Ingredients

  • Matcha – Use a good-quality matcha; ceremonial grade gives the best flavor. I prefer a smooth, vibrant matcha for this drink.
  • Lemon Juice – Freshly squeezed lemon juice makes the best lemonade. Bottled juice often tastes flat or has preservatives that change the flavor. For one serving you’ll typically need about 1½–2 lemons, depending on size and juiciness.
  • Simple Syrup – A 1:1 simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water) dissolves easily in cold drinks. If you don’t have it on hand, you can quickly make a small batch on the stove (see notes).
  • Water
  • Ice

You’ll prepare the matcha and the lemonade separately, then combine them. For a pretty layered look, pour the matcha very slowly over the lemonade — this is optional and mainly for presentation.

Ingredients

Matcha

  • 2 Teaspoons Matcha, ceremonial or latte grade
  • 1/2 Cup Water

Lemonade

  • 1/3 Cup Lemon Juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1/3 Cup Water
  • 2.5 Tablespoons Simple Syrup*
  • Ice

Instructions

Matcha

  • Combine the matcha and 1/2 cup water in a jar, seal, and shake vigorously until smooth and frothy. Alternatively, whisk the matcha with water until fully dissolved.

Lemonade

  • Mix the lemon juice, 1/3 cup water, and simple syrup until well combined.

Matcha Lemonade

  • Fill a large cup with ice and pour in the lemonade.
  • Slowly add the prepared matcha on top. To create layers, pour the matcha very slowly over the back of a spoon or down the side of the cup.
  • Swirl the cup to mix before drinking and enjoy immediately.

Notes

*To make a small batch of simple syrup: combine 1/4 cup sugar and 1/4 cup water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat, cool, and store any extra in a sealed container. This yields enough syrup for two drinks.
