Take classic chocolate-covered strawberries to the next level with these Chocolate Covered Strawberry Sweet Rolls — a decadent, crowd-pleasing addition to any brunch or special breakfast.

I turned my usual sweet roll dough into a chocolate dough and swapped the filling to strawberry jam. To finish them off, I made a chocolate-strawberry cream cheese frosting and topped each roll with a chocolate-covered strawberry for an extra-special touch.

These rolls are rich, tender, and beautifully balanced between chocolate and bright strawberry flavor. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Ingredients:
1 3/4–2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup cocoa powder
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 package active dry yeast
2 1/4 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup water
1 egg
3/4 cup strawberry jam
Chocolate Strawberry Cream Cheese Frosting:
1/2 cup butter, softened
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup strawberry jam
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 1/2–2 cups powdered sugar
Optional: chocolate-covered strawberries for garnish

- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine 1 3/4 cups flour, cocoa powder, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- Warm the butter, milk, and water together until the mixture reaches about 90–110°F (32–43°C).
- Slowly pour the warm liquid into the flour mixture while mixing until the flour is absorbed.
- Add the egg and continue mixing, adding additional flour a little at a time until the dough becomes smooth and slightly tacky.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface, knead briefly, then punch down.
- Let the dough rest for 10 minutes, then roll it into an 11×15-inch rectangle.
- Spread 3/4 cup strawberry jam evenly over the dough, then roll it up tightly from the long side.
- Cut the roll into 12 equal pieces and place them cut-side up in a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Set the pan in a warm spot and allow the rolls to proof until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for about 20 minutes, until set and lightly browned.
- Remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool slightly before frosting.
- For the frosting: in a mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, cream cheese, and 1/4 cup strawberry jam until smooth.
- Add the tablespoon of cocoa powder, then gradually add powdered sugar until the frosting reaches your desired thickness and sweetness.
- Spread the frosting over the warm (but not piping hot) rolls and top each with a chocolate-covered strawberry, if desired.
