Gluten-Free Snack Ideas for National Snack Food Month

February is National Snack Food Month, and for those of us who need or choose gluten-free options, it’s the perfect time to rethink our snack choices.

Snacking often gets a bad rap, but when done thoughtfully it can support weight management and steady energy levels. Small, well-timed snacks can curb hunger between meals and prevent overeating later on. Many people with healthy eating habits snack more frequently, using nutrient-dense options to sustain energy without spoiling their next meal.

Keep a bowl of healthy snacks available for munchies.

One of my go-to gluten-free snacks is a simple mix of nuts and dried fruit. We keep a large bowl on the kitchen island with a rotating combination of nuts, seeds, and dried fruit so it’s easy to grab a satisfying, high-protein nibble instead of reaching for chips. Another favorite: halve a ripe avocado, scoop out a little extra flesh to create a well, fill it with hummus, and eat it with a spoon — creamy, filling, and naturally gluten-free.

Other easy, low-calorie gluten-free options include air-popped popcorn (check labels to confirm gluten-free processing), carrot sticks, grape tomatoes, and fresh fruit. Hard-boiled eggs are an excellent portable source of protein, and apple or pear slices with peanut butter make a popular afternoon pick-me-up for families.

When you’re out and about, a gluten-free protein bar in your bag or car can be a lifesaver. I’m always searching for bars with wholesome ingredients and a balanced nutritional profile. There are many good gluten-free bars available, but if you rely on them regularly, the standard chocolate–peanut butter option can start to feel repetitive.

Nutrition bars like Simple Squares are great for on the run snacking.

That’s why I was pleased to find Simple Squares organic nut nutrition bars. They’re gluten-free, organic, raw-friendly, and paleo-compatible, and they deliver a good balance of protein and fiber for lasting energy. What sets them apart are the savory-sweet flavor combinations — Cinna-Clove, Ginger, Coffee, Rosemary, Sage — creative pairings that taste surprisingly good in a nutrition bar.

I’m happy to introduce this brand to readers and to offer a giveaway featuring a mixed box of two new flavors, Chili Pep and Cho-Coco. One winner will receive 12 bars in total.
