Flaky Biscuit Donuts: Quick Homemade Recipe in Minutes

My sister-in-law taught me how to make these easy biscuit donuts when we stayed at the cabin one weekend. I also make them while camping. Use brown paper bags to toss the warm donuts in cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar for an easy coating and an even easier cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale

  • Canola or vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 cans large buttermilk biscuits

Instructions

  1. Heat about 2 inches of oil in a large, heavy pot to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for best results.
  2. In a shallow bowl combine the sugar and ground cinnamon; set aside.
  3. Place the biscuits on a cutting board and use a 1½-inch round cutter to remove the centers, creating donut shapes. Save the cutouts to fry as donut holes.
  4. Fry the biscuits in batches until golden on the bottom, then flip with tongs and fry the other side. The holes will cook faster—watch them closely.
  5. Remove to a paper towel-lined plate to drain briefly, then immediately toss each warm donut or hole in the cinnamon sugar (or powdered sugar) until evenly coated.

Notes

Tip: Use brown paper bags to shake the warm donuts in the sugar mixture — it’s quick and keeps the coating even while making cleanup easy.
